This is all too true, unfortunately.
I remember when I was little, I used to sit on benches after school and usually an adult would sit and talk. I loved the old folks, best convors ever.
Now, I could sit on a bench all day and hardly anybody would take the time to talk. 8 billion humans on Earth and I spend a whole day on a bench without anyone to talk to.
I sat in front of Local a few days ago and not one soul said something apart for the occasional few passing through the system.
Thatās when it hit me. What is the difference between an NPCs and a players? Players being more deadly. Like NPCs can destroy my ship and players can do it faster.
Noā¦there really wouldnāt be any benefit to that plan.
Losing ships is disheartening, but it is the very thing that should be educational. And there is no substitute for real PvP in this process. Iāve had ship losses that resulted in me changing my entire fitting, and also led to me properly using bookmarks and safe spots. No amount of messing about in some ānon-consensual PvPā space is going to give the required lessons in how unforgiving and dastardly EVE can be.
Oh, I know that, and I agree. But at least it would shut up most of the whiners on this forum who cry regularly about āsafe spacesāā¦
Well, by definition nearly all of us survived being noobs. I do not think the common factor in that is skill, which really only helps one not be killed more often, but persistence. And thatās something a person brings to EVE, or doesnāt, on day 1.
Actually I am getting into board games as well. Chess is of course the OG, but please donāt bring Monopoly up ever again.
I canāt bring myself to get into Dungeons and Dragons just because itās so damn popular and ubiquitous it makes me cringe.
However, Battletech does look pretty cool.
Same here. Trial and error. When something doesnāt work you go back to the drawing board and figure out why it didnāt.
Many times it will be an issue with your setup that can be improved in some way.
Other times itās simply a problem with me YOLOing into blobs like a maniac. Persistence goes a long way in this game, as does experience, knowledge and discipline.
Yes, I had that the first time I realised my amazing undefeatable battlecruiser could be trashed by a frigate. The fitting had worked so well for PvE but failed dismally at PvP. The biggest problem was my ship simply ran out of capacitorā¦it was a valuable lesson in being cap stable.
I see people get ganked in badly fitted shipsā¦and 5 minutes later they are out again in the exact same fitting. And complaining that EVE is unfair when then lose again.
@Uriel_the_Flame Monopoly is obviously a spiritual successor for EVE. āMONOPOLY GO!ā achieved an unprecedented milestone by becoming the fastest game to reach $3 billion in worldwide consumer spending, accomplishing this feat in just 473 days after its official global launch on April 11, 2023.
āMONOPOLY GO!ā Captivates Diverse Audiences with Innovative Gameplay and Strong Social Features
āMONOPOLY GO!ā distinguishes itself from other games with its incorporation of team events (co-operative), Coin Looters mechanics, vibrant 3D art, universal tabletop-themed gameplay presented from a top-down view, and more.
Maybe more importantly than downloads, is player engagement and retention with 10 million people playing each day.
That is wild!
Nothing more frustrating than taking out that super awesome new fit you just made, and bringing it into a PvP situation, only for it to be completely useless against another player, while your guns fail to do any damage to them and you die a slow painful death.
The biggest problem for a new player in that situation is that there are so many reasons why a setup can completely fail you in a fight. Could be something as simple as the wrong ammo loaded, a major flaw in the ship setup, or just being outclassed.
I gave up on Monopoly as soon as I realized that I was safer in jail than I was on the goddamn board.
The single biggest lesson I have learned is that tank means nothing if you are immobile and out of cap due to being neuted and not being cap stable in the first place and canāt shoot the other guy anyway due to bad turret tracking. I think noobs have a tendency to fit for tankā¦I certainly didā¦and it is often quite hard to have the mindset to reduce that tank and fit cap boosters, webifiers, etc, etc. Ohā¦and also carry ammo such as antimatter or Navy Multifrequency that has better turret tracking.
I donāt think I have ever played a game of Monopoly through to completion. It usually ends in all the money and pieces on the floor and accusations of ācheatingā long before that.
@Gloria_Exercitus I have only finished a few, but only because a game can go on for such a long time. I also like to see who partners with who, usually best friends/romantic partners.
There arenāt any sore losers in my clique of friends or at least none who would send the board and everything on it fly.
On the other hand, cap stability is also one of the most overrated things especially for new players, although I suppose having a cap stable fit that makes the game easier to play can make sense for some new players, I guess.
But capacitor management, aside from being an actual in game skill book that you can throw on the queue, is an actual in-game skill that players need to learn for themselves.
Understanding capacitor in the game also helps you understand the value of pure, capless EHP tanks, and the advantages of using projectile weapons, missiles and drones.
There has some loan/investment agreement where Squadron 42 not releasing the next few years would be a big hit to them and possible result in the Single Player game being transferred.
I believe quite a few people also have the rights to the 2nd Edition upside or game.
The problem with Star Citizen is that itās not in perpetual beta, itās that Chris Roberts wanted to tell a story not make a game so they had a lore team constantly churning out articles and have been making a web and half baked placeholder mechanics and no one was focused on what would be fun for a average person to play.
SC is a blast for a lot of people, but itās an entirely different pitch than what they made in the kickstarter. I bought in bc they said you could host your own private server for your friends and mod the galaxy to your liking. They even presold a technical guide to running your own server.
Canāt wait for the sequel. Scam Citizen 2: Scam Harder
Iāve been watching a lot of Star Citizen videos and Iām not going to comment about the kickstarter thing because for me itās kind of irrelevant. What I care about is finding a good game and to me, SC looks like the most ambitious space sim game that thereās ever been.
People can cry and complain all they want. Yeah they literally have a 48,000$ spaceship pack that some people have bought. But you can also buy and play the game for less than 100$ as well. The game has whales just like any other huge MMO.
This game is a broken unfinished mess and been in development for over a decade but GUESS WHAT. Itās not stopping just because you hate it. People always want to tear things down that are bigger than them.
Itās the ONLY space sim game that offers an actual persistent universe, similar to Eve - NO itās not EXACTLY like Eve, it doesnāt have the same depth as Eve, literally no one is arguing that so Iām calling it out before anyone here tries to straw man me. But it is SIMILAR to Eve, and unlike Elite Dangerous, which should be more accurately called Mediocre Dangerous, you canāt just turn off the multiplayer in the settings because youāre Afraid of the Big Bad Gankers.
This is a REAL space sim game, and yeah, you need a real high-end PC to run it.
Personally I am tired of messing around with mediocre games. Star Citizen is a one of a kind, once in a life time game that has never been done before. And I personally believe it can succeed. The graphics are great. The sand box is there. The spaceship simulation is next level.
Itās arguably the most in-depth and realistic spaceship simulation game in existence.
Personally Iām done messing around. Iām still going to play Eve of course. But this summer Iām building a new PC and Iām playing Star Citizen. Screw the haters.
hope you buy the 50.000 ship package
