So far the mining school has given away over 20 Newcomer ships to first 30 day miners. These ships are not available on demand. You know that “Rookie Chat” you get forced to join for the first 30 days? My instructors will be in chat and state “The school is open” or “The mining school is now available for 30 minutes.”. This is not to recruit new people. We are not building a corporation.
It is a free program. We don’t need ISK. we have ISK, we want your respect… I can’t recall how many times I have said that to a man. John Rochard is one of our best instructors. When he has the time, he can talk to you in private chat to answer questions or you can set up an appointment with any BRUCE Instructor to learn the basics of alpha mining up to gas. We don’t exclude omega, but please understand, we don’t have advanced classes.
We don’t ask for donations, this program is funded by the BRUCE miners. All I ask from those in Rookie Chat is to respect the instructors. They don’t spam or make drama for the ISD, if an ISD chat moderator tells them to leave chat, they will. Once they announce the school is open, the 30 day pilot will need to head for the school.
BRUCE Freeport is located in the Tsuguwa system. We don’t deliver. We are in the works of making a sister school closer to Amarr. Until we meet, enjoy mining.
No, I have spoken to @Mike_Azariah about this on more than one occasion. It has been in the works since February. I suppose, I did some complaining about getting messed with in Rookie Chat to her and she posted this advert to clear the air. I think that is why she singled me out as the “best”? And damn, why do I sound like Morgan Freeman? I hope the actor is doing better than voice overs for Fiverr!
The MSB is a great program ran by 1 player. There is total of 3 people behind those 4 characters in the corporation, which gives it more attention. Mike mostly hands out fighting ships to players, while we focus on what ships a miner needs. Assuming we don’t get hoodwinked by vets, we do have more than just fully fitting Ventures in store for the future.
If the program continues, it will add more diverse items. However my money is on the station being blown to pieces before the end of the month, now that she launched this thread. That will put a pause on it for sure. I know this is a care bear project, but I promised to help her out, when I am available.
Mike and I have talked about this quite a lot over the past year. New Eden is a vast place and while he’s a 1 man show and I’m a 70+ fleets a month type gal, there’s still only so many new players we can reach.
I just did the tally for 4 years of Eve Rookies and we’ve only reached around 1800 new players in 4 years. That’s only about 38 players a month. That’s a single drop of rain in the ocean when you look and see how many people are logging in or are first time players.
So while I can’t speak for anyone else that participates in this particular game play, I think it’s wonderful to see players step up and start an initiative like this. The more content we can create for new (and returning) players, the more magic moments we can create, means the more likely these players will stay in the game for a little longer.
@Kshal_Aideron thanks, unless there is something I am doing wrong, here is what I run into every time in rookie chat;
I say my line, “The mining school in Tsuguwa is now open, I will be here for 60 minutes.”
Then the players come at me like they are the ISD, with “Not here John” to “Reporting you to ISD” however no ISD ever told me not to say this line, or prompt me to stop.
I even took an ISD aside and asked them, if it was okay by their opinion to say the line. After a long explanation, they gave me a link to submit a trouble ticket to a GM.
I know better than to argue with ISD, but they are not the issue or the solution. The one miner I ran into in local chat, wanted to learn it all in one night, took the ship, and I protected them from rats, while they mined 1 load of kernite in low sec. Then as a reward for being a good study, I gifted them 2 gas cloud scoops and told them to train the skill.
The very next day he wrote me a mail saying he is now gas mining. That was my one success story. I am not sure how much educating the other 2 players are doing other than gifting the ventures. I know a 500K fitted venture, even with the 2 scoops, is cheap to us with billions. But this seems like a small fortune to someone just starting out.
Hopefully we can assist omega miners in the future by gifting them barges or something. At present one player is feeding the astrahus fuel cubes and we check in to see if it needs defending. But today was some decent weather and we all went outdoors.
By the way, I asked “Lucy” who she paid to voice my character up there. She tells me that is a freebie from Eleven Labs. Sounds pretty human.
Just in case you want my advice, keep doing what you’re doing. Come back to this thread and write about your experience with the newbs you interact with, or better yet, get them to come here and give their testimonial. And do whatever you can to get word out about what you’re doing.
I can tell you, it takes time to get your project legitimized in the eyes of the greater Eve community. The moment you realize you are though, it’s the greatest feeling in the world. I think it took a good year for the Eve community to realize Eve Rookies is a thing.
If you ever want to chat, get advice or bounce ideas around, please reach out. I’m easy to find in game and I’m on Discord.
We had a little lag with the school, but I just gifted our 25th kernite miner on his 6th day in the game. I don’t consider myself as much of an instructor as John is much better. That is why I made him our poster child. I want to be clear on some things.
Helping others is never demanded, charity is something anyone can do, you don’t need permission to give your stuff to others.
Giving a man a fish, feeds them for a day, learning to fish will feed your whole family.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became an adult, I put away childish things. I still am a child, haven’t put anything away yet.
Call us naive, call us care bears, but care bears don’t form giant mechs, we are more like Power Rangers or Teletubbies.
Sad that most don’t want to even learn to fish. I gave away billions of isk to players on the forums just for having a sense of humor more than wanting to learn the game…
I’ve seen you in Rookie Chat and I noticed the reactions. I think it is because the wording of your message is ambiguous, and your initiative as yet unknown. It does sound a lot like you are recruiting, even tho you are not.
I’m not sure how you could improve the wording, but it’s worth brainstorming about.
This is all too true. It is sort of hard coded into our DNA. While I am busy teaching someone to fish, there is likely 10 gankers hiding in those bushes behind us, planning to steal the fish we do catch.
@Lusty_Lucy_Cybaritic Best of luck with the mining school, let me know, if you need any financial assistance. I will respect what you stated in your first posting;
The hard part is to teach how to not be caught by the sharks that surround the baitfish. Being aware of your surroundings is as important as to how you mine.
We joke about BRUCE being like Charlie’s Angels, since the 4 characters are 3 girls and one guy. Which makes John either Charlie or Bosley. I am leaning toward Bosley since I get asked to do so much heavy lifting.
Thanks for the emotional support Mike. I was in chat Saturday and a fellow asked if I could train him on what he was doing wrong. I said are you sure you don’t want John or Sally? I am more of a bureaucratic role here. I told him the best key to lowsec mining is knowing where not to mine. I took him to a low populated kernite area about 6 jumps from the school. I told him to dock up but he started mining right away. Once he came to dock, I expanded on the map tools and whatnot. I gifted him a fully fitted Tayra, he was like, WOW! This thing is massive. I told him it would be wise to make the dock his respawn point through his character sheet. I know I made him happy and wiser. I wish I had more time to spend with him but I had to run. Unlike John, I use the Tayra for it being all-purpose hauler. John is more fond of the Miasmos for the big mining bay.
For now we are gifting people ventures, haulers, and tools to use them. They can request appointments through my game mail. Just send a time & date, they are available and I will attempt to get an instructor to assist them. My job is paper work, I am keeping track of who got what… spreadsheets you got to love 'em. Thanks for the links on youtube, I am copy pasting them here, and forum viewers can see them as well.
