Guardian Gala sites

We’re still catching up, but as we get more time, we will be able to set up a single event that has simple and quick with low rewards, and interesting challenges with high rewards. That doesn’t mean everyone will have something to do, but it would start to cover more of the community.

Although I wouldn’t really consider this that interesting of a challenge. We can do better still.

Yes.

I try to but don’t always follow that 100%. Generally speaking the higher risk, the higher reward. This doesn’t necessarily mean a different reward, sometimes it’s just more of the good stuff.

Thanks. Why do you like it?

Technically the Low and High sec versions use the same everything, except for the boss and the size of the groups that can show up during phase 1. The bounty on NPCs was particularly difficult because the guardians can potentially respawn forever. After removing bounty from them, obviously the site was no longer providing enough bounty, so I upped the boss bounty a bit and put loot on the non-bosses.

Yes and no. With the level of abuse I have seen devs endure on their own forums (not just here), I tend to believe devs should not be on the forums at all. If it were the norm to have civil and constructive conversations, then I would agree, decent devs should be on the forums and engaged with their community.

However, two notes on this:

  • Most of the conversations I’ve had here have been constructive, not always civil, but close enough.
  • I always overestimate how thick skinned I believe I am, so I keep coming back.
  • A third note on this: I don’t need people to agree with me and I prefer when we don’t have echo chambers. Criticism is good, as long as it is constructive.

Is that 4 notes? Oh heck, we’re having a good discussion here so far. Let’s talk more about the Gala.

One of the other devs ran into a similar issue as well. The problem for him was he didn’t have the boss on his overview so he never noticed it show up. Just verify you have all the Irregular NPC groups visible in your overview settings and if you never see a boss show up, that could be a bug and you should report it.

Sounds similar to above. If you see them in space but not on the overview, right click on them and look for the “Add blah group to the overview” which should be at the bottom of the menu. Once you’ve set it, it should not happen again in future events as we’ll be reusing a lot of these groups until we fix the way this tracks kills.

The way we track kills is a little silly but I understand why it was set this way. We have a cool solution that is easy-ish to implement but that’s kinda separate from not seeing them on the overview. Then we shouldn’t have to worry about groups anymore.

It’s not impossible, it’s just something that nobody has been willing to take on.

Personally, I believe overview should be saved on our servers so you don’t have to make a new one (or import) every time you install on a new computer.

Not concerning the warping. Most changes we’re making is just to the behavior (thankfully not code, just content authoring) but we haven’t changed this yet. We will probably make changes for the next event, but leave the warping in this time around. Depends on the number of reports we get about this and how pissed they’ll be if we ask for another deployment.

It’s like I’m learning.

No modifications have been made to the loot tables post-release.

Creative usage of in-game mechanics.

Known issue. It’s on Art to fix it up but they’ve been super busy with… uh… stuff.

I started those replies yesterday and due to everything going on, didn’t get to finish it until this morning. I love reading about the different strategies, and I’m really sad not getting to be a part of those discussions because of insider knowledge. This is what makes it difficult sometimes… Keep it up!

Please let me know if the warp thing is really getting out of hand. So far it’s rare-ish but it seems to be related to the fit or playstyle so not everyone is encountering it.

Please do this yourself as well, as in please keep the level of involvement you have in these discussions it is a breath of fresh air and most appreciated.

Highlighted the things I think are causing this. Personally I have never had anything warp off while I am engaging that target. But then again I am in the veteran player category and have a fairly pimped ride. I expect it is simply a question of being able to apply x amount of damage in y amount of time to said target.

Because it is a challenge (series of challenges actually).

  • I actually had to sit down and think about my fit rather than just take my default pve setup (that failed)
  • The randomness of the spawns, the on grid warping, the e-war all make it fun to do.

Absolutely well up there in terms of enjoyment per event so far. Warzone was my favourite but this is catching up due to the novel rat behavior.

Many thanks and please keep it up (both the quality of the events and the quantity of your forum posting!).

well at first i was getting annoyed by little things because i had a hangover
but then i just figured out a strategy that works
i still think the ships spend too much time invulnerable though
i guess they take a long time to decellerate from warp

Yeah I have noticed that very often I am getting webbed and painted for several seconds before I can begin to start a lock on the npc’s. I have a poor internet connection though so put it down to latency / lag.

Any ideas @CCP_Dragon ?

I can say for sure the second you get yellow boxed by frigs, you can lock them. Often times sooner than that, depending on how far away from you they land out of warp.

Connection might be a thingy.

Gotta say it’s great to see @CCP_Dragon involved and replying to the thread here.

:+1:

Your work is definitely appreciated.

I appreciate the advice. To clarify I meant only two of the modules were tech 2. The shield booster and the damage control specifically. The shield hardeners were tech 1 meta. All in all I think my explosive was 87%(?). Thanks for letting me clarify that if I was unclear.

I initially tried the site with like 60% explosive resist and it was pretty ugly lol.

Because it was a challenge but not an impossible task for a newbro like me. Forced me to think outside of my comfort zone and come up with something but I was able to over come it without “billions and billions” of Isk.

Same here. The events are getting better each time, and it’s the only PvE I’m doing right now. Also the point system is fairly balanced now. The drop rate of the accelerators is a tad too high IMO. I have no issue with warping NPCs so far. It’s annoying of course when other players warp in at 100, attract the spawns, and don’t shot them, while you are sitting at zero waiting for the boss forever.

The part I don’t like … because of the specifics of the rats the sites require PvE fits to be run efficiently. So suspect baiting and catching others can’t be done “on the fly” while doing the sites.

Awesome tale, man! Great job keeping at it, working through the challenge, trying different things, and congrats on finishing one!

As you allude to, the drops are cool, but the learning and experience is worth at least as much in the grand scheme of things

@CCP_Dragon by your response you’ve just reinforced that quote from me and proven its validity.

You say devs would come here more often if the atmosphere was not so “toxic”. Well it is the mods’ job to keep the discussions clean and enforce the rules or are you saying mods are powerless on their own forums? Or maybe it is related to the size of the community team or something? Doesn’t really make sense either way to be honest.

Regardless the fact is indeed sad that it is considered a miracle that a dev engages in convos here, which was my post about, nothing more, nothing else.

What you brought up is an excuse but doesn’t invalidate the fact it is a sad thing dev posts are so rare it is a miracle they appear… and even considering your excuse there is no reason for that as you yourself admit this is your forums not some third-party one so you have all the power to enforce the rules and keep it clean, and if that is not possible for some odd reason then surely there are ways to make it so that it is actually possible to achieve just that.

Excuses like that are never about more than just putting responsibility away onto others and never solve anything just ensure the problems will persist and even get more cemented.

Thanks a ton for this post and all the replies!

The big thing for me here is that it made me think and work out what I needed to do. I tried out 4 different ships, fits, and strategies before I found what worked for me. I like the challenging combat and the fact that this is the first time that I’ve really interacted with the new AI, but the mental exercise of analyzing the fights, figuring out what worked and what didn’t, and trying new things was really cool.

The other thing that I think is really great is that this event seemed to bring out some really good stuff in the community. This thread has been awesome, reading different strategies, people reporting in with ideas and intel, and trying to help each other out (mostly). That’s pretty cool, and a sign that you guys did really good work here.

Also- accelerators  .

I’ve analyzed my logs and I see a wrecking hit of the Bachareal with 3345 on my ship with 65% kin 70% exp at this time of testing on SiSi.

My question, what exactly does this number mean? Is this raw damage hitting my raw HP or something else?

With the warp AI, I love how the rats always warp at range, it gives you time to respond, if they warped to 0 it would be hell and a bit unfair :stuck_out_tongue: so congrats on that nice balance.

At the moment I find that the re-spawn time of frigates might be a little too quick, at the moment its best to ignore frigates completely and just go for cruiser and bs, but if there was an increased re-spawn time killing off frigates first might become an alternate strategy to running the site and would give short range ships more of a fighting chance as at the moment you need something that can project to at least 30-40km’s.

well i can kill frigates a lot faster than most the cruisers because they are 30 km away and i dont wanna close that gap so i gotta kill them with barrage in falloff
i can kill frigates very quickly and stay on top of the boss spawn so it doesnt make sense to kill cruisers for me unless i really have to
and the only time i really have to is when i have the site to myself anyway

From my experience the boss only spawns after killing a few cruisers thou, maybe I just haven’t run enough yet to find alternatives to force the spawn.

yeah sometimes you have to kil a few cruisers but usually you can get 2-3 near ones when you warp in
gotta kill them fast before they kite out to 30km
other times other players come into the site and kill cruisers
if no other players are around and frigs stop spawning then i have to load barrage but i try to avboid that as much as possible because i wanna keep my hail loaded for the boss
