Guardian Gala sites

Kudos and cheers to you! That is exactly the spirit you need and we need more players like you.
Keep it up!

So the event is bad because you tried a site and didn’t automatically succeed?

Wow, +1 to CCP Dragon!

edit: What I’d like to see in future events is something high-risk, high-reward, like the dropping of a cannister that is yellow to EVERYONE. Maybe it holds something delicious, maybe not, but whatever happens, you better hope no-one’s cloaked nearby or that someone warps in.

NPC also should use more different EWAR, especially scramblers.

There’s definitely been a big step up in difficulty from the Arms Race event in December to this one, no doubt about that.

I was soloing the Rogue Drone sites in my Hurricane in about 3 - 4 minutes. The same Hurricane was very nearly demolished last night at a Gala site and I had to warp away.

I went back in one of my Battleships and while the enemies were no threat to my ship, I couldn’t get out of web and into range to fire my lasers at the Cruisers (Amarr BS might not have been a good choice) and my Drones got demolished very quickly. I lost 5 Federation Navy Hobgoblins and 3 Gardes before having to give up, as my large pulse lasers just couldn’t hit the Frigates, my Drones were gone and I was stuck moving like a slug in a tar pit towards Cruisers sitting 40km away laughing at me.

Nice to see that you can’t just roll up in any old fit and blast away in 4 minutes, I guess. Going to have to have a good think about fits and tactics to get this one done. That was one of the main things I enjoyed about my first time doing the SoE arc. The Dagan fight made me completely re-evaluate how to fit my Catalyst and what tactics to use. Not a bad thing at all.

A lot of 1 week old players in starter Frigates and Destroyers have been asking ā€˜how do I do this Guardians thing?’ in Rookie Help chat already and they’re a littlle dissapointed to not be able to take part. It really would be nice to have event scaling, based on System Security level or something like that.

Only reward I have gained so far is from the one site I went to that someone else had practically cleared who then warped off leaving a SKIN and an Accelerator inside a boss wreck. Thanks whoever you were, used the booster, selling the SKIN :yum:

Will see how I get on tonight with a change of fit / tactics.

This is really the biggest change in difficulty- you do need some fairly specific tactics and fitting strategies to be successful here. It’s not so narrow or specific that there’s only one way to do the sites, but it’s safe to say that there are a lot of things that won’t work. Once you find what works for you, you will be golden, but that process of working through it is key.

I had a very similar experience with the ship that I normally use for events when I did my first site- I have decent skills and it’s a very well-fit BNI, but it got its butt handed to it on the first site in a major way. But, now that I’ve gone through the process to find what works for me (trying different ships and fits), I’m running these in a little over 5 minutes each. I’m not saying that to sound like a badass (I’m not-LOL), just that there is a definite need to try different things to be successful. I’m really digging that about this event- the ā€œAH HA!!ā€ moment is awesome!

Keep at it and you’ll find what’s right for you

Frigates respawn too quickly for scrambler’s, else everyone will be stuck in site forever.

Many more folks would lose ships if npcs had scrams too.

Indeed. I wouldn’t go there if they scrammed. I would have lost a Battlecruiser and a Battleship last night if they did.

Two things - first the ā€œnpcā€ cheat. For
Players to do what the npc do, there has to be either a probing ship or a warp in from a wreck or something similar or a player ship that had burned in. IMO the gala npc should have a probing ship on field which if destroyed would stop the pinging. Second, I was in a fleet of about 7 to 10 ships that ganked a target in one of the sites. As we landed we all spread out. This caused the npc to spazz our and go into perpetual warp pinging. I guess they couldn’t decide who to go to?

That’s assuming you brought enough dps to kill the boss, if its a stale mate your tank higher than their dps and their tank higher than your’s then what.

wait for someone to jump in or prepare for a long trip back to the station lol

Call for help for example. Maybe there should be only 1-2 named frigs that can use scrambler, one spawns upon landing and another when boss appears.

Dunno if this has been said, but I think they nerfed the BS spawn. Yesterday my Domi could barely rep through its damage overheated, now it can easily repair through it non-heated.

It hasn’t been changed since release read up, you where probably further away lowering the bs damage.

if anything I should take more damage, since I don’t bother moving anymore. Maybe the damage is just random and I’ve been lucky.

Target painters and webifiers have a lot of effect on how easy the player ship is to be hit by battleship.

Exactly, thats why this event is so awesome! You have to deal with all threats at least to some degree. You cant have 4-5 frigs TP you, neither can you have cruisers stacking up, all the while you have to kill the boss when it spawns.

The first time I got into a GaGa site I was overconfident I could just sentry-fit VNI like I was doing combat sites and deds, but I quickly learned it actually needs tactics to pull off! Now I dislike afk ratting anyway and actually prefer a micromanagement of my drones, and this site does exactly that!

Even though this is my second event ever, I think gameplay wise its a big upgrade from the rogue drone sites and I spend almost all of my two/three hours per day playing it ^^

I was able to get them to warp a little but not away from me with a slightly different fit. Still need a solid repro case for this and I’m sure we’ll be able to figure this out.

Yeah, they do. I think this was done to emulate players more, but I remember being told it wasn’t a bug.

I checked on their behavior and they don’t start acting until warp is complete. They arrive at different times, not everything arrives at exactly the same second. Combine that with the fact that they have really low lock times and you might get painted before you lock one of them. They also have instant reaction times.

One possibility is to have them lock slower. I would probably want to remove or shorten the warp invuln.

What counts as abusive is subjective. Whereas modding rules should be objective. Pithy and mildly passive aggressive comments can be enough of an excuse for someone to avoid the forums. I’m not trying to say it’s okay, but just making an observation of how I have seen small things chase people away.

The Hunt might see something like this. I have something similar I would like to do but it’s on my stretch goals for the event, so it might not be completed by Tuesday.

No changes to the NPC stats.
