I have mixed feelings. On the one side I thought the last event was too easy, on the other this one is too hard.
When I tried it for first time I took pvp stratios and went to plex occupied by Raven with intent to steal the cargo and suspect bait. Rats immediately start focusing me and bs boss spawned and was hitting me, more suprisingly my dual rep with nanites couldn’t withstand it and I had to warp away on structure. Then I tried gnosis with railguns. Found out I won’t hit anything , frigates are too fast and orbit at 4km, cruisers immediately move outside my range. Drones were the only thing that worked and frigates were hitting them hard and I had to pulling them back. Then I tried to swap weapons to missiles as I realized that will be the only way to hit frigates. Well it hit them but for almost no dmg. I used heavies but it did almost no dmg to frigates and cruisers again moved instantly out of missile range so I could again use just drones. I managed to make about 2 sites where bc spawned but whenever bs spawned I had to warp off heavily damaged even with dual rep and passive explosive resists in armor.
So I came here, read about the Gila fit and tried it. Voila, suddenly the site is just as easy as rogue drones were and I could do it afk completely…
Unlike others I am don’t see any strategy or tactic there. It doesn’t matter who you shoot, how fast you shoot and what is the initial spawn. You have to kill certain number of rats to make spawn bc/bs but there is no point clearing all frigates or all cruisers as more will just spawn immediately over and over. So basically you need a ship that can endure all the webs and painters and bs dmg. The npc’s AI is all nice but it doesn’t matter since npc are respawning endlessly.
Imo, generally speaking for any event highsec version should be easy, maybe not as easy as last drone event which i was doing afk in vexor using drones only, but easy enough so even relatively new players can participate. The loot in highsec should be toned down but with a special 100% “good” drop rate on first site per day (or do that via agency mission and redeem items as its now except now you need to make 50+ sites to get the booster).
The only positive I see on the current event is that since it requires pretty specific setup, it adds an incentive on market.
disagree
firstly how can you say it takes no strategy when it took you several attempts to find a working fit
and for loot
well the value of the loot is determined by the players
so even if you nerf the loot you just raise the value of the loot
perhaps so high its not worth buying
theyre just accelerators with limited expiration
plus this is an event so let people cash in while its up
You and I have different experiences. My droprate of boosters is 1 in 2,5 sites, in highsec.
Also, I think this site actually needs a bit of planning and has somewhat of a learning curve, like your own experience proves (trying out multiple ships).
idk what you are talking about
i win 90%+ of my sites without breaking a sweat
because strategy
if you go suspect and get killed in hisec thats your own problem
suspects always gonna be killed in highsec
also you gotta consider that most of the strategy involved isnt about the npcs in the site but other players in the site too
so CCP didn’t add in the fact you could be on grid when the boss is killed and get credit, or if you do damage you get credit, its only if you get the killing blow.
in doing so a group of players have come up in tornadoes that warp in when the boss spawns, alphaing it and warping away. (probably using a cloaky scout on the sites in the area they are bouncing around in)
Sounds like much effort for the reward, if they get the loot at all.
Also it’s not the final blow earning you wreck and site, but top damage. I would like to add that, because there was a strange discussion recently in the German help channel where long time players seriously suggested only the final blow earns you a wreck to newbies.
No it’s not, it’s top damage. I will fight the truth till death.
Then, you have a bug.
I made an experiment on the first day : kill a few ships on arrival, then when the frigs warp in, spam ctrl click on them . Start counting the time when their speed increases after warping, until you stop having “invulnerable” on the GUI.
It took me 10 SECONDS between the moment the frigate started moving and the moment I could START to lock it.
What you should do : let them decelerate like other, and let us lock them the moment they start an action.
I wish you didn’t just add damage and resist information to agency window but make them appear when ship scanner is used for NPC ship. This would give functionality for ship scanners and they would not be just decorations. Getting information would have some risk.
Just tested it, seems like there are few seconds when they are invulnerable, overview updated with their speed but could not target them for few seconds. They indeed start accelerating before you are able to target them. Looks like they act under invulnerability. So bug indeed.
I’ve also noticed that, while I can’t lock them, my drones have no issues with going after them. Maybe not kill them but definitely they’re moving/orbiting those rats.
Confirm, after the posts here I was watching the NPCs closely, and they definitely accelerate long before they get lockable. At least they don’t act on you, so it’s not game breaking but annoying.
it is game breaking if you are orbiting something and expect to shoot them from afar. between being able to lock them @20 and being able to lock them @5 makes a
huge difference in your tracking.
The drones should not attack the rats before those make an aggressive action.
Maybe it’s connected to the bug above, that I can also confirm - gap between rats moving and me being able to lock them is huge.
One more, unrelated thing. In the past you were able to turn on the tractor before you had a wreck locked. Since new ship explosion was introduced (I think) you can’t do that any more as each time I try, I get an information that wreck is being tractored by something else and my tractor falls out of cycle. Thats annoying, especially in fast pace events when you have to get the wreck asap.
