How will EVE Possibly Compete with Amazing Star Citizen?

Why does CCP needs plans to migrate the 800 humans playing the 32k online characters? They just do most of their stuff AFK while watching Netflix or playing some other game even Star Citizen. Do you even play EVE Online?! You are probably just another game reviewer/blogger posting to have others do their job while they sleep, right?

I saw that, it was a factor in me not backing the game. Although I do understand why they did it. From the business perspective, its something lucrative for folks that have too much money on their hands and I donā€™t think that the regular $45 (or whatever it is) starter package alone would get them anywhere near what they have financially. So it is needed.

As far as PvP goes, Iā€™m currently what can be described as a PvX player, I enjoy all aspects of games I play, PvP, PvE, I try it all. But what I donā€™t like is to be put in situations with no way out, without any counterplay at all. If general combat and game mechanics prevent counterplay, then that is just flat out bad design. If the game systems are too limitting and too complex to be designed for somewhat balanced gameplay, they the PvP itself needs to become controlled. No unwanted PvP unless its somewhat balanced or there is conterplay available. So I am hoping whatever my next game will be, ragardless if its SC or not, it will have this somewhat solved.

OK - this thread made me go and check out Star Citizen. One quote stood out:

ā€œThe developers [of Star Citizen] plan to include a slider allowing players to determine their level of exposure to other players.ā€

:astonished:

Whats wrong with 100% exposure to other players - with, or preferably without, consent?

Please donā€™t let Eve HS and NS carebears see this.

Given weā€™ve aeen some.great footage of SC we canā€™t say itā€™s vapour ware. Have yu seen the scope and detail? It doesnā€™t take 5mins to knock up. They have even said they keep.adding scope because they want to.make it great hence the time it takes. I donā€™t think it will effect eve too much because eve hasnā€™t attracted new playerā€™s much anyway itā€™s just the same people playing for the past 10 years. The ā– ā– ā– ā–  angry eve community, scamming etc will keep players away enough anywa

Yet the only one angry here seems to be you. So hat did you lose to that scam?

The thing that ticks me off as an EVE player about Star Citizen is that it canā€™t make up itā€™s mind whether to exist or not.

Iā€™m serious. Ever since I started EVE there has been this anxious fringe of forum posters who have speculated about which game would ā€œkill EVEā€ (usually the same people that always kept saying ā€œEVE is dyingā€ btw).

The list of games they just KNEW were going to kill EVE is so long I canā€™t remember it all, but I know that Star Trek Online, Black Prophecy, Jumpgate, SWTOR, No Manā€™s Sky and Elite: Dangerous are on it.

See, the difference between those games that all failed to kill EVE and Star Citizen is the fact that THEY EXISTED (well, except for Jumpgate). They came, EVE didnā€™t die, and the ā€œomg CCP, you better implement all these things we want like Walking in Stationsā€ crowd just naively/desperately moved on to the next ā€œEVE-Killerā€ on the horizon. But Star Citizen is stuck on the damn horizon, and as long as it is, the ā€œyou know, SC is going to kill EVEā€ people will be stuck too.

RSI needs to have mercy on people like that and either crap or get off the potā€¦

There were several games that had massive impact on the Eve players around me and therefore on my personal Eve experience. Interestingly, Diablo 3 and LoL are probably on the top of the list, despite not having much in commen with Eve - both drawing away many corp mates for weeks if not months.
They all came back eventually, which means none of those other game had what Eve has: content for years.

Thats very nice, thanks for noticing, I didnā€™t know about that. Could you post a link to it ?

And to answer your question, there is nothing wrong with it as long as appropriate combat mechanics allow counterplay in combat. For example if freighters (or insert whatever ship here without any defenses) had some guns and whatnot on them that would allow them to fight back when attacked.

When there is no counterplay then everything is wrong with it, as for the details, look through countless posts already on these, past and other forums, its not as if these things haven never been brought up before.

The ā€˜counterplayā€™ is to co-operate with others - an escorted convoy perhaps, or a fighting ship ā€˜riding shotgunā€™.

The fact that you posted it here on the forum means you want us to see it.

That is the response to 90% of the weeping on these forums.

Ahahahahahaa. SC.

I dont know why not. If at time you will not feel like PvPing, you could turn PvP off. Other thing is you could turn PvP on at times when there is some interesting action. Take for example a game like GTAOnline where people constantly die around you and you with them. At times you would only want to hang out with firends and for that is the passive mode that you can pretty much turn on or off every second, there is only some slight delay between two modes. :woman_shrugging:

Oh and some activities are strictly PvP so the passive mode is not allowed in them. You just leave the competition and get no rewards if you turn it on.

What are you on about? What a loserā€¦
And you have just proven my point. Well done

So you are the angry EVE community basically?

We saw some sick footage of Duke Nukem Forever in 2007 too.

SC is like Jesus. Sounds great on paper, but never actually shows up.
