Q: Is Hisec ganking good for the game?
A: Yes, as it creates content for anti-gankers (along haulers and gankers).
Githany Red is the living evidence that ganking is good for the game.

Githany Red is the living evidence that ganking is good for the game.
People posting here as if ganks only happened on loaded ships with profit intent.
People are routinely killed for nothing more than the pleasure of seeing something big (or small) pop.
If you think this is good for the game, youâre delusional.
Whoâs doing that?
We are all playing a video game. We are all equally delusional.
You, for one.
Suggesting that if you tank up your ship, you wonât get ganked, or have a dramatic effect on your chances of getting ganked is disingenuous at best.
If people are out there to gank, they will gank you, no matter your tank or âsmartsâ.
Like someone said up above, the only real solution seems to be to never undock, or at least never try to go to trade hubs.
How does that imply that ganks only happen on loaded ships?
But no. Ganks can happen to almost any ship capable of flying in highsec.
Sorry where did they suggest that?
Here, for example, is a suggestion that if you donât carry big loads, or triple bulk, or have a scout, or whatever, you will be less of a target
Here a suggestion that freighters get ganked for âlack of thoughtâ. No, they get ganked because itâs easy to gank them.
Here just a flat out â â â â â â â lie that âpreparationâ makes âhauling extremely safeâ. Give me a break, anyone in the hauling channels will tell you the situation these days is terrible. Empty freighters are being ganked for âthe lulzâ all the time.
Preparation does make hauling extremely safe, but the risk of being ganked can never (for almost all ships) be reduced to 0 (that wouldnât be good for the game).
You must be one of the dumb ones that doesnât prepare - and thatâs ok. Easy targets have always existed and will always exist; and those easy targets make things even safer for the well prepared.
Care to post your lossmail?
Itâs ok to have a little weep, Grokan; but then, you need to just calm down.
Your points - and those of all the other carebears - have been aired and countered to death through these forums many times, and can be succinctly summarised thus:
Carebear: Itâs not fair!
Gankbear: Suck it up!
You mean the OP that explicitly mentioned risk/reward?
Why do you think people play violent games?
Watching stuff go pop, boom or squish is indeed fun, and it has been an attractive feature of games since space invaders.
Get your head out of your arse.
Bolded the important part.
Less of a target =/= not a target.
I hope people like the exercise they get from moving those goalposts all the time.
First itâs âGit gud! Tank your ship, fly with escorts, blah blah blah.â
Then itâs âYeah, you still get ganked even with all those things, but itâs good because of the interaction of game systems, blah blah blah.â
And finally itâs âShut up, youâre a carebear anyway!â
Ok well none of those are âmore tank equals less gank chanceâ, so⌠You arent actually defending your assertion.
Is exactly what you did in your reply to me.
The situation for alone hauler against organised gankers squad is partly true. If they decide that they want to kill particular player, they will do it one way or another and there is no escape from this. However, to effectively gank larger targets for good profit I believe gankers need significant amount of effort such as buying multiple omegas, configuring programs for multi-account movement etc., so I wouldnât say ganking is easy to that extent for hunters comparing to preyâs capabilities.
I personally think mayority - 70%, up to 80% of pvp should be consensual, because itâs fairer for the game. Therefore, I believe ganking is something negatively affecting quality of gameplay. If I wanted to take part in pvp, I would gather my money to wear mediocre-cheap destroyer and try to find someone roaming solo in lowsec or nullsec or join a fleet that is pvp centered instead of being ganked by someone in highsec where I am trying to farm for better items allowing me to do something meaningful outside in the wilderness.
The nicest thing for highsec is itâs supposed to be ,spawn areaââ where newbies like me start from, where there is much competition, the lowest available profit in comparison to other areas of space combined with the best grade of security.
I really like how EVE Echoes solved this by disabling pvp in highsec at all, but I am not fan of games on phone, so I will stay in EVE anyway. Maybe Echoes have different target player type, idk.
Hi Grokan. My take on the thread title is that it asks whether a particular type of player-versus-player encounter is good for the game.
Iâm sure that a gank in Highsec is a player-versus-player encounter.
As James 315 had it, âGanking isnât just good for the game; it is the game!â
EVE is a PvP game, and miners, haulers and their ilk can no more avoid PvP completely than can gankers perform their deeds of heroism without the industry-dependent tools of their trade.
Crowd Control Productions strives to hold all this in balance. Despite many recorded nerfs to the activity, gankers continually design and innovate new ways to relieve the carebears of their stuff.
On a side note, I wouldnât tangle with Ramona unless you can make your points clearly and consistently. Sheâs a veritable tigressâŚ
Edited to clarify that James said, rather - âPvP isnât part of the game, it is the game.â May his benign shade have mercy upon meâŚ
Youâve literally quoted people demonstrating that no goalpost was moved.
And you can see the effect itâs had on the economy in echoes.
Thatâs something we donât want to happen here.
Why should we only gank for profit? We arenât greedy little McScrooge carebears who only seek to enrich ourselves with maximally efficient isk/hr. We derive our in-game satisfaction from defending the Guristas refugees and the Blood disciples, fighting back against the evil crabs who pick on defenseless little bots.
If you donât feel safe hauling in your freighter - maybe you should STOP HAULING.
I dont think that ganking as it is right now is good for the game. I beleive a lot of new players are probably leaving the game after losing all they have or a good portion of what they have.
The problem for me is Its to easy to gank worthy ships (Freighters/Orca/Mining T2 ships) in HS with cheap ships like the Cata. CCP should make it harder in some way.
I understand the counterparts that ganking is fun for the ganker and that it bring something to do.
I dont think that ââblockingââ ganking is the solution either, it should exist to some extend.
Ganking is good for the game because thatâs the only way you are going to lose your safe Highsec freighter, Orca, or Marauder.
Gankers perform a public service by making sure that carebears die.
On the contrary. Ganked players were sticking around longer.
Wait, are the new players in the freighters and orcas? Or are they in cheap ships like the catalyst?
In reagrds to transports, if newer players are worried about losing their ship and a large chunk of their net worth, just follow Scipio`s advice and the majority of the risk is reduced. Transporting a playerâs goods to a secondary or even tertiary market hub may reduce the profit by 20% or so, but itâs very low risk and stress. A single ship loss going to or fro from Jita or TTT may far exceed the âpaperâ losses from selling or buying from a smaller market site, even for a long time. Still worried? Then hire someone to transport it for you.
Newer players should be taught that higher profits come with a higher risk, a lesson that tends to have RL applications. Veteran pilots should be well aware of this and be self accountable for choosing the risk they are willing to assume. You donât have to follow the motto of the SAS to enjoy EVE.
