Risk vs Reward ninja mining

Because that needs to have people dedicated to that, as they won’t be able to mine afterwards.

cf what I wrote above about “having to use half your mining team on ganking”. here

Also that would remove … nothing.

And thats more difficult or costly than normally available to a ganker who has any other alt because…?

I dont see why its no cost / risk to one character because he primarys ganking and alts indy than a character who primaries indy and alts ganking.

If anything, the indy primary will have more isk in theory due to krabbing.

Pot meet kettle, at least I don’t continually offer my opinion as fact.

Your opinion is that ganking is a low skill, low cost activity that incurs no risk.

Mine differs because I’m aware that some of the skills required to pull off a successful ganking operation are soft skills, skills that have little to do with Eve and everything to do with success. I’m also aware that while the game provides some penalties for ganking the main risk is meant to come from other players, and that many players can’t be arsed to provide that risk, or are completely ignorant, wilful or not, that they can and should be doing so.

Because you need those toons for another activity, and that those toons being criminal means they can’t mine.
But I wrote it in the link I gave.

And while they are mining they cant gank for the ganker either.

Sorry, like I said, Im just not smart enough to understand how its not a two way street.

Sorry, figuartive two way street.

Oh and also, while the Athanor is deccable, the miners dont have to be at all and so theres that.

You keep claiming that operating cost is a risk.
nobody cares.

I Wrote it in the link. Read it, I don’t like to repeat myself on the contrary of many people here.

So what ? If you want to mine on that moon belt : You declare war to the corp, you kill the structure, and you place yours.

And like I said, I dont understand it. Thanks for making me repeat myself, its as enjoyable for me as you, Im sure.

Why when you can just mine it without making yourself vulnerable to another wardec?

And that’s the issue of the OP.

That the OP is able to mine with an Athanor and still be safe from Wardecs?

Or that the mechanism should only apply to them and no one else?

You need to train reading comprehension to level 1, I have never claimed that operating cost is risk.

Ganking does involve cost, you’ve managed to get that bit right.

It also involves repercussion and risk. Adaption to risk and repercussion doesn’t mean that they no longer exist, the gankers have simply factored them into the modus operandi in order to minimise their effects.

He is not, the athanor can still be wardecced.

Wait Ive got it

Because the theoretical ceiling of pve productivity is so high, any use of a krab’s time not krabbing is a negative.

Therefore, if a krab does anything to stop themselves from dying, thats a cost, right?

So therefore PvE people are always the underdog and must have their income protected.

What a world.

As a dyed in the wool PvE player, I may have to omega up my Orca and 3 mining accounts.

If I can mine tears while mining ore I’m all for it.

The OP is in an NPC corp, by definition they’re safe from wardecs.

In all likelihood the Athanor is operated by a holding corp, which can be wardecced.

The miners on the other hand don’t need to be in the holding corp in order to mine the field; ergo in all probability they are safe from any wardec that affects the Athanor.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
In NS when red enter your pocket, you are in a KRABBING ship and thus you can’t defend yourself. If you want to defend yourself you then need to refit and find people to play with against the invader. Which most of the time will not take a fight they may lose.
Therefore yes it’s a waste of time.
What’s more people usualy have limited amount of time. They can’t switch from an activity to another quickly, eg because it needs to have the ship ready in the system and it’s not always doable.

So yes, that’s why you get bosoned when you enter Delve. To be sure that people who want to have some time farming can do it.
Sure it kills the interactions and the fun. Maybe because there was no fun to be have in a PVE ship in the first place, or in a PVP ship when outnumbered. Just like there is no fun being suicide ganked, or wardecced, in HS in the first place - and so people adapt. Before they joined NPC corp, now they join non-wardeccable corp. Or left the game.

When you factor in the cost of losing your ships, preparing the defense, being docked because you can’t do anything against a bigger fleet, the logistic delay to acquire things, the income in NS is actually much worse than in HS. And that was before BO.

When you factor in the cost of being ready at the correct time frame, having your corp wardecced, the small increase in yield (remember : +42% at most), the need to fuel them, the initial cost of the moon, and compare it to asteroid farming or ice belt farming, and then factor in the ninja harvesters that can plummet the value, you realize the cost of an athanor in HS outweights the benefit.
I know people who have athanors in HS and they almost never use it. even with spod. Ice belts are just better, if you happen to be in a place where there are no bot fleet in your timezone and can afford one orca per account per system with a belt.

So yes why have 5 characters, with two miners and three security when you can have 5 miners.

Oh but then we are back to pesky ninjas. So to deal with them, you either need to reduce income, or lobby to change the rules.

And as a person can never have enough income, the perceived loss doesnt change with scale.

So in every case the krab or high sec equivalent (as we seem to be wanting to split that hair), is always losing possible income, but because for some reason we never measure a gankers income as relevent they are never losing.

This is a two tier system based on how people feel about stuff and is no basis for decision making.

we never measure it as relevant because it is never relevant.
The cost of a ganker alt is what this alt does not mine while it is used to gank.
The income is … the loot of the ganked ship divided by how many alts you had to use on it. So half the modules (not rig) value . For a mining orca it is … 30M?

Except that three security is nothing. They may stop ONE ninja harvester every 15minutes , while the 9 others will keep doing it, and the one ganked will refit at once. Assuming they even can successfully gank it
You lose 60% of your mining yield to remove less than 10% of the ninja mining yield.

Whatever you do, with the current mechanism the operating corp is at loss and the ninja harvesters are at win.

And that’s without factoring in the wardec possibility and the cost of the athanor and the fuel and the need to be here at the time the chunk detonates.

So then yes, a two tier system where the poor krabs are losing from their projected income because others would like an income. Or even some gameplay.

It took me a while but I got there.

Why the projected income of the other party is ignored I still dont understand, but then Im not in favour of Social Class as an enforced mechanism.
