So how can we explain your victim complex?
What makes you think that others have a victim complex about a videogame?
This thread and many others like it.
Itās a video game, dude.
But Iām in that camp. This aspect of EVE is advertised in the trailers, man. Did you not watch them?
Thatās more or less spot on and is actually the way normal society works.
Imagine a world where there were no standards or expectations in regard to this sort of thing. A world where people became as upset as they like about whatever they chose, and expressed it in whatever manner they saw fit. The world would be as full of whiney carebears as the EVE forums.
You guessed it, itās carebears.
Why is that too bad? Why do I need/want your sympathy or the sympathy of anyone else? Iām a grown man, and this is the internet. Nothing can hurt me.
Yes, yes it would be. Thereās no certain level, either. It would just be blatantly, overtly, very amusing to watch. Why? Iāll say it again just for your benefit:
Because Iām a grown man and this is the internet.
Welcome to the internet. \o/

Considering CCPs long history of Goon favoritism, bias and outright corruption it is fitting that this happened "ā¦at Summit. CCP watched me do it live."
It just blows me away that weāre like 15 years into this game and yet so many people seem to have still not watched the Causality trailerā¦
Keep them coming cry babies! I want to cook some Ramen tonight and need these tears to cook it in.
/steals Faylee Ramen
I like it more than you. Now cry me a river.
Iām pretty sure human beings are not a video game. Did you realize you would be interacting with other human beings in this video game and on these forums?
Awwww. I had hoped you would have more backbone. Oh well . . .
The trailers CCP releases to advertise their game are not a definitive guide on how to play the game. They are not a binding contract compelling you to commit certain actions in the game or adhere to certain gameplay principles. They are not a guarantee from CCP Games that you will experience what is depicted in the advertisement. Most of them do not even depict actual, in game events. Furthermore, if you watch and listen carefully to the trailers in their entirety, you may find that you are interpreting them in a very slanted way or even outright misinterpreting them.
Causality was not a call to backstab your in-game friends after conspiring with a Goon at your local McDonaldās. It was an illustration of how player choices affect the game world as a whole, and it should also serve as a warning that those seeking revenge might go to greater lengths than you ever imagined to exact retribution.
Working as intended? Iād say so.
Imagine a world where you were not allowed to grieve without permission from society. Imagine if they even went so far as to punish you for experiencing grief they deemed unjustified. Or imagine if you were told how to grieve. Could you get angry at a loss? Would you be forced to cry? Who are you to determine what others should value and how they should respond to the loss of that value?
Famous last words. LOL
āGoon favoritismā LOL
This is a video game that is set in a harsh environment. The videos are a marketing tool for CCP to display how different their game is in that it allows emergent gameplay and offers exposure to experiences that are either mechanically impossible or against the rules in other games.
Yeah, whoās saying they are? Stop strawmanning and answer the question. Did you not know that espionage and corp theft etc. are a feature of this game? If you did, you have no right to complain when it happens.
Oh, Iām sorry, am I telling you how to feel too much?
Suck it up, buttercup. No one cares. Welcome to New Eden.
Humans arenāt a video game, but we are all just playing one. From a RL human aspect, the only thing relevant is that we all agree to play within the rules.
As long as we do that, everything is fine.
Some people might not like it, but the game is built on the ability of people to wreck your day.
In doing so, itās one character wrecking another characters day. All within the rules. No out of game aspect or consequence to it. Only things in the game are impacted.
Itās when people go outside the rules that they take it beyond the game and deserve what comes to them from CCP as a result.
But anything within the rules and spirit of the game is perfectly fine for any of us to do.
I am okay with the fact that what was done with the assets was within the rules of the game and the mechanics allowed it.
Butā¦
What I donāt like is that it was arranged between two acting CSMs, at an official CCP meet, (apparently) under the eyes and ears of an active CCP employee. I am likely not the only one who see this as a potential stain on the company. In business, reputation means a great deal and this doesnāt look too good. There is a vacant response from CCP on this as well. Didnāt even make the news of the week?
The fact that the ātraitorā intentially baited the āvictimā knowing full well that he would react badly, was an intentional act of provocation and should be considered as well. CSMs are generally supposed to be held to a higher standard than the average player, as specifically stated in the CCP Community pages.
FWIW, I think that the ban was justified. But I also think that the CSM who did the deed should resign or be removed from the post.
My 2-bitsā¦
I donāt think anything truly shady went on, but I do think that CCP ought to be beyond reproach when it comes to these thingsā¦ especially after T20.
That said, I am fully supportive of any and all CSM members playing the game in any way thatās found acceptable to CCPā¦ scamming, ganking,ā¦ all of it.
Stain on the CSM more for me, but Iām not that favourable towards the CSM to begin with, so thatās probably more my own bias being expressed.
On the issue of this specific scam, I agree that the involvement of a CSM, supposedly all for representing the people he screwed over, who voted him in to a permanent position that entitles him to free access to FanFest, I think that reflects more on The Judas than anything.
Iām in a bit of awe over Aryth tbh. He played this perfectly.
But yeah, the association of the players to the CSM in this case sucks, but overall, as long as people are within the rules and spirit of the game, then itās all ābuyer bewareā sort of thing. Loss is our own responsibility and scams are perfectly fine.
If men were angels weād would not need to be governed, if angels were to govern men then there would not be any need for internal nor external controls on the government.
If however, you accept that men are governing men, then you quickly realize the foolishness inherent in the above romanticization.
There are plenty of games about betrayal and deception that humans regularly play. In fact, almost any skill-based competitive game has some element of it where you are at an advantage if you fool or trick your opponent into making a move that helps you. Feints, bluffs, lies and obfuscation are what makes a competition interesting, and while Eve Online maybe less restrictive than some games in how much of that is allowed, it is far from unique.
The rules are clear and if you donāt want to play such a game then you donāt have to. There are near infinite pastimes for you to pursue, and if playing an imaginary character in a virtual world makes you unhappy, or impacts on your real persona in a net negative way, you probably should go just do something else and leave the game to those that enjoy the intrigue such a rule set enables.
Here is the contention.
What rules govern such behavior? Where is this āsetā of rules that you are referring to?
