I mean not all ships need V skills to be useful. Unless you want that last drop of efficiency. Just took a look at the skills required and I have everything trained accept those critical V skills needed to literally sit in the ship. (123 days est for lancer dreads.)
To be honest as I put on the years in EVE I got like 76mil SP in subcaps and I just recently finished all V fleet command skills (except mining). I don’t even pay attention to my skills. You know there are so many packs selling 1mil sp? Oh can’t froget about $$$----plex---- LSI route also!
YES! No doubt starting out in EVE is a pretty long time. For most capital users already it’s not that big of a train. All games have a grind aspect that makes something “worthwhile.”
If something is easy everyone would have it and it would mean nothing. If something is hard only a few have it and that has value when it is hard to get.
I really get that vibe you don’t like grinding in games. You are going to be disappointed in pretty much every MMO/multiplayer game in all of existence.
No, that is not it.
what I do not like is to be a cash cow.
You mentioned plex and packs- that is what sheep do.
You want to tell me that I have to pay MORE then 20 euros per month for a VIDEO GAME?
How about no?
Fortnite- free.
wot- 80 euros per year. OR free, but you wont be playing high tier games(which are boring anyway).
Scum- one time 40 euros
Factorio- one time 25 euros
Assetto Corsa- one time payment of 10 euros+
Eve online- 240 euros per year
Also, eve online is the only game that you have to work to play.
Also, the thing with saying "I do not even think about my SP " is that not a single high SP player do.
But what they do not think about is the money they sinked in to get there.
I make my stance very clear on this topic.
Games gotta keep the lights on somehow. Severs dont run on good vibes.
Sheep? Some of the richest players in New Eden are expert traders/builders. Anyone can make trillions with dedication, skill, and the right network of people. The richest of the rich are plexed YEARS over because they know how to make ISK. + billions for that bling Don’t overthink on how to plex.
I don’t think those people and some I know personally are sheep when they have years of omega time stacked up through just playing the game.
Please describe to me who is a sheep because we all play with pixel spaceships here lol.
“EVE is dying” and “everyone will quit if highsec isn’t made safer” are truly evergreen subjects. I first played EVE 17 years ago, which is wild to think about, and you better believe people were saying these things back then too
As for why there aren’t a ton of groundbreaking new features, well, EVE likely makes decent money, but it doesn’t make that kind of money. And as for why player numbers are going down, every game’s player numbers go down as it ages. What EVE has is an exceedingly long tail, and it’ll probably last a good while yet.
CCP has been making roughly $60 million per year regularly. As a comparison, Cryptic Studios with a roughly similar budget (their numbers aren’t published quite so clearly) and about half the staff of CCP, manages three games, and updates two of them regularly and to a significantly greater degree than EVE.
CCP’s issues updating EVE aren’t about budget. It’s about CCP being tired, complacent and incapable. But because they have a small core of very heavy spenders in the playerbase, they can get away with churning out little more than hype and promises for years.
If they had any competition at all they’d have gone under years ago, but the market they target is too niche for anyone else to bother contesting it.
Sorry- are you trolling?
Do you not know the difference between buying plex and “plexing the account”?
we are talking herte about buying plex for real money- and that is what sheep do.
which is OK, completely. If you want to burn your money and/or have no time to plex the account go for it.
Again- NOT what we are talking about here.
If you have to PAY more then 20 euros for a game each month- that is a “sheep mechanic”.
It is your choice and you are free to do whatever you want- but it is a “sheep mechanic”, “cash cow” or “whale fishing”.
No, they really do not make any kind of change.
I just yesterday watched chinese player doing mining with 79 accounts!!!
one Rorq and all other mackingaw( or whatever the name is for those huge mining ships).
The guy made himself program to control every single one of them simultaneously.
Now, how exactly that helps anyone?
He mine in one second what normal player mine in a week.
He is producing in one day what you did not produce in a year.
His accounts do not “buy from market”, you cant kill him( he is in a corp that owns that space, pvp guys are a jump away( he said that)), he does not sell ore- he makes things for his corp.
So, elitism and privilege.
That is not good gameplay.
That is not something that eve can grow on.
So yeah- dead game indeed.
Dead by terms of stagnation and it will actually die after current game users die off/move on in real world.
Back on topic, I found it interesting to learn that a great many null sec folks are doing these new high sec „opportunities“ sites because of the decent ISK/hr. I guess effectively this is „new PvE“ content despite it supposed to be a way for newbies and experienced players to bridge gaps and play together.
Kind of makes it obvious that player driven meta is what makes or breaks the „how to get newbies to fleet up“ experience. These opportunities are just a canvas / background, and it would be interesting to know how frequently that goal is actually being solved by these sites.
Where’s there’s meat there the vultures congregate.
There’s a Corporation chat for those of us who want to connect and fleet up, the thing is that a lot of time must be devoted to character improvements for the first few months and after missions for LP/SP/isk/Standing and Ratting/Salvaging/Exploring to scrounge enough to have a decently-fitted Destroyer/Cruiser to fleet with there isn’t much time left for socializing. At least that’s my experience so far.
I hope it helps but I haven’t explored much of it. I took a look but I had to stage between 0.4 and 0.1 systems on a 5-jump route and am still not done.
Don’t know when I’ll try it. I’m less and less interested in PvE, that’s part of the reason why I moved to Lowsec, more challenging PvE and surely a few PvP surprises. I’m still exploring everything. Next on the agenda is scouting my new constellation and the surrounding ones, Wormholes and the use of filaments.
Maybe that’s thanks to people who have been in Eve over a year yet have zero killboard. No indication that they have ever even undocked. You wouldn’t happen to know any such people ?
Nope! I really did not know. My angle is levelheaded analysis on the threads people start.
Well alright then I didn’t know that! I knew a few credit card warriors myself. Many retired people spend their checks all on plex. I know many “rich” people in EVE who lack basic fitting skills and somehow, they are worth 100bil + and have alot of SP
Of course! I plex my account through my various ways and have a nice chunk of ISK for fancy stuff. Since I am 1 account I don’t make bank like my boxer friends but we all have a wonderful time here in EVE Online
Thanks for explaining that to me, didn’t know what you meant a sheep in EVE was.
Oh, One other thing. Don’t get emotionally attached to a videogame. I find a lot of people do and they get sad at the “state” of the game and then lash out at others expecting to have the same emotional attachment to the game and agree. But when you don’t really care if EVE Online was shut down the next day it really leaves a lot of room to enjoy the game.
