As long as they counter-balance this nerf by adding more active defense to famous gank-pinhatas such as barges and exhumers, sure, they can nerf it as much as they want.

We wish it was. But more orcas are used for solo afk mining than fleet support.
So hopefully they nerf the yield. A lot.
On the topic of barges:
They should be homogenised a little. The hulk/cov should get a smidge more tank and capacity. The skiff/proc should lose some tank and. And the mack/rettie should lose some capacity.
This statement is objectively false. I mine a fair amount with and without corp mates and I rarely see solo orca mining afk or otherwise. Depite my many hours on grid ,I donāt recall seeing a solo Orca mining in the past month.
Your corp brokers ore and would benefit from nerfing orcas and the subsequent ore market disruptions.
^^ He is right some go mining solo but end up boosting for newbros. Sorry this is going to be long to explain. I dont get it! If the orcas yield is nerfed. The orca pilot gets nothing or next to nothing while paying for charges for miners to get more. So he either excepts it or asks the miner to compensate him. Then they will be accused of scamming miners especially newbros. Or go back to an exhumer and keep getting ganked. If he managed to save the 2 Billion with pitiful mining amounts in-between Ganks in Hsec. Why shouldnāt he be allowed to use it. Especially if it stops him from getting ganked. Its not something that can be done quickly so put time and effort in. Also if he gives up boosting the miners may stop mining as they dont want to be ganked either so most try save up for Orca or as mining is a stepping stone to other careerās its a must for newbros and most only mine until military skills are good enough for mission running or PvP. Some will turn into Gankers themselves so less mining and the prices will go up. Maybe like said buff the exhumers. so they are harder to gank but in the last 7 days a charon was ganked in Jita which is Hsec so many have no Idea on what is actually going on. Gankers can easily gank anything they want even in Hsec, Here is my reasoningsā¦ Going back a few years Battlestar galactica online was in exactly the same position we are talking here. They wanted to discourage mining because everyone was mining with only a few PvP or ganking miners. It was low risk and good profits especially water. When if you found water you called a water mining ship that sat there sucking up all the water. As it was automatic. Everyone was just calling them all over and leaving it forgetting about it. Claiming all that water passively and moving on looking for more. As it cost money for ammo and nothing as a reward for destroying said mining ships to start with. Only a few bored veterans that have been there done that wasted there ammo destroying them. They also wanted to encourage PvP so things were used and destroyed so needed replacing. Now some could not wait and paid money for the goods so would increase their profits funding improvements to the game they said. So they nerfed the mining ships gave rewards for destroying them and buffed smaller ships for PvP so newbros could be encouraged to PvP also. Everyone I knew Got and trained up for the Vipers for example and flew around destroying everything. They could even fly into the side of the capital ships so close and fast they could not get hit. With the weapons boosters they soon learned how to take down even capital ships quite quickly. We all did. few months later no water, No ore No capital ships. Everyone leaving the Game. Game closes down. Gone for good. And it all started with a few complaining about balance. Like now.

I donāt get the pained testimonies that the Orca has ruined Eve and the only way to restore order to the Galaxy is to crush the Orca. Like they guy above who makes the claim that more Orcas solo afk mine than support fleets. Huh, all you have to do is look at D scan or actually go to a mining belt or moon. Solo Orcas that are not hauling are a rarity.
Everyone knows what happens to the ore that comes out or Orca mining fleets, right? Players make stuff with it. That ship you bought, the modules, charges, drones and rigs come from me and my Orca plus fleet. The amount of ore that is produced now and the present economic equilibriums are the result of the status quo. The howling and crying on this forum that comes from alleged moves by CCP that allegedly ruined Eve for ever and caused players to rage quit seems all forgotten as the drum banging increases to nerf the Orca (nerf the Orca, nerf the Orca, nerf the Orca). You have no idea regarding the actual resulting affects but the Orca must be nerfed.
And for all you horrified by the thought of a Orca solo mining AFK (gasp) my five augment drones can produce the same as one laser on my Skiff. I donāt solo mine, itās not worth my time, but I may do some today just for fun!
āGet rid of those Orcas and make those silly miners drive those barges up to those rocks and make them play a new mini game, yeah a new mini game so they play the game the way I think it should be played. Canāt have those ships be useful and highly valued to miners, thatās unfair 'cuz I canāt gank them.ā
So all you anti Orca people, donāt just sit here wringing your hands, talk about how much of a reduction in ore production you want us to swallow, 10%? 20%? And also state how long it should take me to fill my Orcaās 220,000 m3 ore holds. If you canāt talk at this level, then youāre not serious.

Thereās a simple solution. Bump every Orca you see. If you come upon an AFK Orca in a belt, grab a Mach or Vagabond and bump it 500km outside of the belt. That player will come back to an empty ore holdā¦

Hans Devin you cant be getting out much if you arnt seeing solo Orcas. Im guessing you arnt frequenting High sec or you would see situations where there are often 5-10 orcas in a systemā¦ā¦non of which are in a fleet. Just doing there solo thing.
As somebody who loves his Orca im conflicted on this. On one hand I dont want my Orca solo miner to be less goodā¦ā¦ā¦On the other I recognise there is a problem. But that problem still doesnt push a high sec orca above 20mill isk per hour ā¦ā¦ā¦so is it really a problem? Its not like we are getting rich off it. i could mine for 9hours (roughly how long it takes me to fill up 3 times) which usually nets me around 140-170mill. My alt can scoop that in less than 30minutes if he finds the right data site.
So they ship can mine and has loads of EHP. Low risk and boring gameplayā¦ā¦ā¦and crap isk. Isnāt that how itās supposed to be? Lol

The reason people pick the orca is simple - itās a better afk miner. Itās generally safer and you donāt have to pay much attention to it. Itās not a better mining ship per se.
And do we need EVE to be āgenerally safer and requiring less attentionā?
I donāt think so. Nerf the solo mining capacity of the Orca. And buff the Orcaās fleet support capabilities to make up for it.

@Ocean_Ormand @Gerard_Amatin Both wrong in about 5 minutes your drones would have harvested said asteroid/s and orbiting your Orca. Not a very good AFK mining ship if drones Orbit every 5 minutes or so and needs your attention to engage another asteroid is it. Asteroids in Hsec are not as big as they used to be. If there is a problem solo mining and I don think there is. To be more efficient and safer militarily you would buy a bigger better ship and equipment. Same as mining. If its a problem its because its too easy to get ganked. Nerf Ganking 
especially in Hsec. It is meant to be High security so why isnāt there any. Why cant some people play how they want to play instead of being attacked especially when Newbros are involved. Some quit and dont come back. The income is no where near as good as mission running or WHs which I prefer to be honest. But I do enjoy boosting now and then for the Newbros even if they are not in our Corp and miners in our corp too. But if they stopped me mining at the same time. I wouldnāt do it any more. To be honest it is now more time effective to do WHs or Mission running and buy the resources you need compared to hours of mining in Hsec. But thats in another discussion. Thats my opinion and I will not change my mind. I have lived out of Hsec Venturing all over and I have not seen 10 orcas in one system in Hsec in 9 years so maybe thats what its like in some areas of eve but not all over. Even if there were so what they are playing there game play yours. If you dont like it move. I did several times and will again if things get to crowded. Like when Big corps come in from null or low and rake every asteroid in orca mining fleets and charons back to null. If orcas stop mining there will be less mining fleets especially in Hsec as low and null you can use rorquals. Geez is eve not big enough for some people. Well Ive had my say and thats my opinion so No tagging me again please. Im not discussing this further because then its an argument. Everyone has differences of opinins thats the spice of life. Boring if everyone thought the same. Fly safe everyone.

If orcas couldnāt mine at all they would still be very welcome in any mining fleet because of their boosts.
Iām not saying we should remove mining drones from Orcas, but it would be good for the game if Orcas werenāt suitable as solo miners. We have barges, exhumers and mining frigates for that purpose.

Id like the orca to be able to protect mining barges.
Perhaps in a different way then currently available in eve.
My suggestion:
Orcas are able to protect Ships within a 30km bubble from incoming damage while taking that damage themselve (Damage Redirection Bubble).
To be protected by this bubble a ship has to fit a āDamage transfer frequency Link Moduleā (Low-Slot + High requirements). And link it to that orca (active module). To adjust frequency of shield to another orcas bubble you have to recalibrate (5 min cooldown).
Mining barges get a bonus to fitting requirements for damage transfer frequency Link modules.
No other ship class will be able to fit this without being totally gimped. (offline modules need recalibration timer too).
Orcas cant mine but can fit shield bubbles and have mining bonus, ehp bonus and tank bonus and a big mineral cargo.
While linked via module its not possible to use drones for the barges or orca cause of frequency interferences.
Fixed orca.
Its totally possible to bump mining barges out of bubble if pilots are afkmining or arent careful. Further counters would be neuting orcas or using ecm to disable the link of the barges.
Orca will get used to protect from ganks and npc in highsec + bonus
and to protect vs npcs and bonus in low+nullsec. A mining gang will still die to raiders but will last longer.
And whatās your point in such changes?

Itās not about the numbers itself, itās about the viability of barges and exhumers. If people prefer to use an Orca instead of dedicated mining vessel for solo mining, something is off.
