If I blow up your noobship and pod you 5 minutes after you first logged into the game, does that make you a winner?
huh?
- losing noobship and empty pod is not a tragedy. It’s a cheap experience. And (possibly) very useful in future when you start to have something to lose.
- you call pilot who lost a ship “winner”?
The OP was pretty much clear on that, he was not salted with his loss and was pretty much impressed of what happened further.
He just spin with terminology over and over again and separate himself from rest of the posters by “you people”.
He is yet young
The rage will come, one day, and perhaps a tear or two.
Its inevitable.
Well of course after 1b loss we might get a controversial interpretation of what happened
If you haven’t raged or cried in EVE, I’d say you haven’t experienced it to its fullest.
Why not? Since up is down and white is black and people who destroy our things are “good” and doing “bad” is not “bad” because there is no “bad”, therefore, doing “bad” is “good” . . . well, not “good” but “space good” . . .
Does EVE HAVE victory conditions? Can anyone be the “loser” or the “winner”?
See what I mean? You are trying to construct a paradigm where “bad” is not “bad”, but if you erase all JUSTIFICATIONS, then your actions cannot be said to have any merit, no matter what they are or the outcome. Either there is “good” in some sense in which case, maybe the pirate in the original post redeemed himself, or there is no such thing as “good” in which case the pirate in the original post had no justification for his behavior.
If you assert that destroying other players’ ships is justified, then your assertion is subject to review by others for acceptance or rejection. Other people are allowed to say, “I don’t agree that that was a good thing. I don’t think that’s what he should have done. I don’t think that makes him a winner.”
You have inadvertently asked the very same question that I asked in my first post. I look forward to an answer from someone . . . or maybe it will never come. Who knows?
My 7b Svipul purchase confirms that by 150%
And you will remember it FOREVER!
Dude. Totally worth it.
What I find amazing is that you are far more bitter than I am and I’ve been playing almost 2x as long. If you keep hanging around you are going to be so misanthropic on the forums they might as well ban you now.
too bad can’t make a tattoo on my toon forehead to remember the feelings
Heh, great attitude. Don’t expect this to happen frequently, but if you continue to demonstrate an attitude like this you’ll find the game more enjoyable and you can learn much more quickly.
Arm tattoo kill/shame marks would be pretty cool.
I agree, but in a different tense.
Rod, if you aren’t having fun in the game or are so upset by the community in it (or immediately around you), its time to take a break at the least. Being angry at the game is just going to make you feel worse.
For you in particular, I suggest you take a voluntary forum break and instead focus on trying to find people you get along with ingame. This forum can be a pretty hard place if you take it too seriously. The pace is fast and the forum pvp pretty subversive and refined. There are people here that know what they are doing interms of breaking you so as to stop you posting.
I also take forum breaks. None of this is deadly serious. There are more important things, such as the game and playing it let alone everything else the RL world has to offer.
If you choose to ignore the answers you have been given that does not mean no answers were given you.
You also ignored the evidence of CCP’s own words that directly refute your yelling about the nature of the game they made and maintain.
I am not quite sure where, in this morass, to step in . . . so in I jump.
If I play Chess I am not shocked or dismayed when a piece is taken, my opponent is not bad. When I play poker if I was out-bluffed and lost the hand and some money I will probably admit that my opponent was good (especially if he buys a round afterwards)
Bad and good, in game terms, should be applied to playing within the spirit of the rules or outside. If you do something not expected of you (ie reimbursing a loss) that might be good.
But if you take unfair advantage . . . popping a frigate with a T3 cruiser? That is part of the game. Not bad, not good, just how the play is done. One does not just take pawns with other pawns but whatever piece is handy to do so. Part of the game.
I have gone on roams and shot ships that came into the path of our group. That is what our gameplay was. We did not send a message . . .
Oh, I say there, chap, we are on a bit of a hunt. Are you up for being the prey today? If so? Tallyho. Otherwise we will just tottle on our way, nobody the worse for wear.
Not how Eve has been played and not how I ever expect it to be in the future.
We take the pawns, go for checkmate. Take the pot. Grin and maybe buy a round.

So much butthurt in a thread about not being butthurt…
Op, great story. Whoever sent you that isk is a class act; take a lesson from them and you too will be remembered fondly (Unless you blow up Mayhaw and send him isk of course; then you’re a bad person apparently). Remember, in low and null, shoot first and ask questions later; low and null are made to PVP in, so when you enter either, be prepared to fight and/or die. If you are in a hauler or a mining ship, most people will assume you’re an alt of an enemy, so they will naturally destroy your ship without asking. If you’re in any other ship, most people will assume you’re there to fight (why else would you be in low or null sec?) and will begin that fight. Every time you go into low or null, expect to die.
Also, don’t fly anything that you can’t afford to lose.
I agree, there are tons of good people in EVE, so don’t let bitter folks tell you otherwise
Fly safe op
Quote half this thread?
Very well, as you seem to have willfully ignored the PDF @Scipio_Artelius linked earlier in this thread, I will humour you and repeat it:
section 5.3 - SOME PLAYER JUST SHOT ME; IS THAT ALLOWED?
In EVE Online, any player may attack any other player if they choose to, no
matter where they happen to be. This is because EVE Online is essentially
a PvP (Player versus Player) game at its core. If the other pilot had no right
to attack you then CONCORD will track him down and punish him for his
crimes, so long as the attack took place in high security space. If the attack
took place in low or null security space, then it would have been down to
you to protect yourself since you may be attacked freely and CONCORD
cannot intervene in those areas of space. You will also need to bear in mind
that if you commit an act of aggression or other illegal act against another
pilot (such as stealing from them or attacking without cause), any pilot can
then attack you with impunity, anywhere at all, for a short period of time
thereafter.
section 7, 7.1, 7.2 -
7 PVP (PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER)
The essential core concept of EVE Online is that it is full time PvP in a sandbox
environment. As has been mentioned in previous sections any player can
engage another player at any time in any place. In high-sec space there
may be consequences if a pilot attacks another without just cause, but they
can still make that attack if they wish. In low-sec and null-sec, there are no
limitations to PvP at all. Some of the wide variety of PvP styles are described
in more detail below.
7.1 WHAT FORM DOES PVP TAKE IN EVE?
There are various ways that players can engage with others in EVE. Simple
combat is one of the most common forms of PvP; ranging from a one-on-one
fight between frigates or cruisers to a massive fleet battle with battleships,
dreadnoughts, carriers or even titans, with hundreds or thousands of pilots
involved. Then there is Factional Warfare and Duelling as mentioned previously.
There are a variety of ways to make your way in EVE if you wish to concentrate
on PvP; you can be a pirate – preying on pilots on popular trade routes or taking
part in ‘gate camps’, where you lie in wait for pilots who jump from system
to system. Maybe you’d prefer to become a bounty hunter; tracking down
other pilots for a rich reward or the simple glory of the kill. Or even become
a renowned fleet commander; directing the actions of hundreds of other pilots
in one of the massed battles mentioned earlier. The choice, as with all things in
EVE, is yours.
7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?
No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be
completely avoided. The safest systems are the ‘rookie systems’ where new
players start their journey in EVE. In high-sec systems, you are less likely
to be attacked since CONCORD will exact retribution on pilots who attack
another pilot without good reason. But, for example, if you are flying a ship
with a high value cargo, a player may attack you to destroy the ship and steal
anything from the wreck if they think that it’s worth the effort. Such attacks
are known as ‘ganking’ and if the profit they’ll make is sufficient, pilots are
willing to accept the expense of losing their ship to CONCORD and having
their security status lowered for their crimes. So it will be up to a pilot to remain
vigilant wherever they may be flying and be ready for anything at any time.

And disregards the rest.- Paul Simon
“Destroying other players’ ships is the point of this game and players who do so are good.”
^ Something like this is what we are looking for. Do you see anything like this statement in the 8.68 Mb document you are pointing at?
And, if you want to be obtuse and interpret my “yelling” literally, then you have to come to grips with the fact that a piece of text is LITERALLY not yelling. Allow me to introduce you to the phrase “rhetorical emphasis”.
Literally you are the only good guy here. Please keep your warm seat at station and never undock otherwise this ruin your world of own perfectness.
