Advice and fair warning

  • New to Burner Missions and never did them before? Then i strongly recommend to run them on the Testserver (Singularity) first until you are familiar with them.
  • Don’t blame anyone when your ship pops it’s usually your fault. Basic Rules tl:dr don’t get cocky when dealing with Burner. Burner missions are not your usual LvL 4 missions they are far more challenging. You’ll need rather good skills, sometimes pimped layouts and over-heating.
  • Many of you won’t have all V skills then stick with the more expansive pimped layouts until you know what you do

General Notes

  • All layouts were made with Pyfa and an all V character designed for fastest possible finishing the missions. No Implants are needed, no booster or drugs were used.
  • To optimize your kill speed or in case you can’t match the minimum tank use drugs to boost your tank and DPS
  • Don’t ask for Drone ship layouts, the AI likes Drones very much and on top of that is more or less erratic.

Downgrading modules

  • Be aware that most pimped layouts increase your margin of error a lot and allow for some minor mistakes. Downgrading layouts work most of the time but you also reduce your margin of error. Downgrading is useful in lowsec and nullsec and might be necessary in the face of ganking.
  • In pimped layouts with expansive damage mods/rigs you can always switch for cheaper ones. Sometimes you need to fix your CPU then via Implantat or CPU mod/rig.
  • This is only for professionals who know exactly how to use Pyfa:
    In pimped layouts with expansive armor tank modules you can most times switch for cheaper ones but in addition you have to replace damage mods with extra tank mods.
    In pimped layouts with expansive shield tank mods you can very rarely switch to cheap ones.
    Make sure after you switched modules that your tank is sufficient and you still have enough DPS to break the Burner tank. Use Pyfa to compare the layouts.

  • Just switch to a T2 repair module and you have a cheap version.
  • The time to kill difference between using Fusion or Hail is negligible. Fusion has little more falloff and better tracking. Hail the better DPS
  • Slow boat straight away and a webbed Cruor should stay at ~3.7km, best DPS is always in 1/3 of falloff adjust you Ammo/layout to that. OH your repair module while you have cap. You may have to OH your cap booster.

Team Burner

  • All Burner warp in at 40km, all Burner Logis and Burner Assault Ships have standard ingame resistance profiles. Always and i mean always kill at least 1x Logi Burner first.
  • Using a brawling setup:
    AB+web is mandatory, make sure your webbed+heated AB speed is at least +200 m/s faster than a webbed Burner Logi. In case you can’t match the Burner speed with your AB use a T2 speed rig or an A-Type AB or speed imps like Zor’s Custom Navigation Hyper-Link
  • Using Kiting setup special advise:
    Be advised one mistake in range control aka getting webbed (web range is ~14km) by Burner Assault Ships = instant death, no escape. Use kiting setups on your own risk.

All Team Burner - Garmur

  • DPS 321 hot ~1:21min
  • Works vs every Team Burner
  • Make sure your orbit is at least 20km and vs Burner Jaguar at least 25km better 30km because of the very rare wrecking shots.
  • Missile range with standard faction is 29.7km in case you need more use T2 Javelins against Logis or against the Jaguar

  • Time to kill avrg. 3:06
  • You will lose Drones so TII Drones setups aren’t cost-efficient. TI Drones work fine on the Gila and are cost and time efficient.
  • As usual NPC AI is weird there is no guarantee that the AI behaviour will last. Be warned if the AI changes you might lose this Gila setup because tank isn’t sustainable. Again this setup works only because Drones will be targeted and DPS taken away from your Gila.
  • After warp in align away from the Ashimmu to buy time, kill the Sentinels first.
  • You don’t have to avoid the NOS/Neut on the Ashimmu as your Omnidirectional Tracking Link II only need 0.1 cap, you can always switch it back on.
  • You may want to use a mobile depot and start with 2x INDDA and 1x CNBC when you are in reload switch to 3x INDDA. Switch to a MWD after if you want to loot.

  • Time to kill avrg. 5:22min (includes looting)
  • Do not approach any Talos directly, always use a zig-zag course to get close to ~60km then get into orbit. Never shut down your repair modul while approaching, shut it down when you are in orbit.
  • Cap managment is most important make sure you inject your charges in time.
  • Put some nanite paste in your cargo, OH your MWD/AB while approaching and repair while in orbit killing the Talos. Do the same with guns just vice versa.
  • The most difficult thing is to get into orbit, shut down your MWD early enough and use Ctrl+Spacebar to set speed to 0. Try to avoid overshooting with your ship, you will get a feeling for that, it is just trial and error.
  • The pimped Vagabond works very well but be aware that you have to actively manage your tank and cap. That makes the rep, OH and cap managment more stressful.
  • The Vagabond has less DPS than the Deimos but way better speed, you need less time to close the range but more time to kill the Talos. In the end you gain ~1min.
  • To get close use orbit 5km and immediately switch to keep at range 5km, align to and slowboat to 1.5km. Only heat your 425mm when you are aligned and if you don’t have to reapir your MWD. The close range makes looting more easier too.

  • Small Drones will be targeted immediately, you can use TI Drones (Hornets) as sacrifice to lower the DPS on you or Acolyte to do extra DPS. Initial DPS to tank is ~450 without using sacrificial Drones. Using sacrificial Drones you don’t need tank at all but i won’t recommend that.
  • This setup is based on not using Drones at all. The Acolyte will do extra DPS and are sacrificial Drones if you want to use them.
  • You can use a full T2 setup but then you have to overheat your armor rep and hardener at the start while using sacrificial Drones otherwise your tank will be not sufficient.
  • Use a mobile depot and start with 3x T2 webs after you finished the Dramiels switch 1x web for a MWD.

  • Time to kill: < 4:30min
  • After warp in align away from the Ashimmu to buy time, kill the Sentinels first.
  • The tank calculation is tricky because Ashimmu and Sentinel have a different DPS Profile. These are minimum numbers and work only if you kill the Sentinels first and fast.
  • X-Large ASB + minimum 48k EHP better 52k EHP vs Ashimmu profile with a large shield buffer
  • X-Large ASB + minimum 38k EHP better 42k EHP vs Combined Profile with a large shield buffer
  • If you don’t have these tank numbers with your skills the setup do not work as you won’t survive the ASB reload. Always OH your ASB and make sure your shield is as close to 100% as possible when you used your last ASB charge so you will survive the reload.
  • Always kill the Sentinels first and OH your RLML, launch your Drones after you are aggroed by the Ashimmu+Sentinel. Make sure that the 1st Sentinel dies with the 20 charges on your RLML + Drones, if not you won’t survive the reload as the DPS is too high.
  • Try to orbit the Ashimmu as good as possible.

  • Time to kill: ~6:38min (includes looting)
  • Do not approach any Talos directly, always use a zig-zag course to get close to ~60km then get into orbit. Never shut down your repair module while approaching, shut it down when you are in orbit.
  • The most difficult thing is to get into orbit, shut down your MWD early enough, use Ctrl+Spacebar to set speed to 0. Try to avoid overshooting with your ship, you will get a feeling for that, it is just trial and error. To get close use orbit 5km and immediately switch to keep at range 5km, align to and slowboat to 1.5km. Only heat your Blaster when you are aligned and if you don’t have to repair your MWD. The close range makes looting more easier too. Put some nanite paste in your cargo, OH your MWD/AB while approaching and repair while in orbit killing the Talos. Do the same with guns just vice versa.

This full T2 setup requires to overheat all hardener and both repair modules at the start while Drones are targeted otherwise your tank will be not sufficient. 4x Burner Escort Dramiel are attacking you, initial DPS: to tank is ~450 without using sacrificial Drones. Each Dramiel does ~112 DPS after you killed the first one, tanking is easy.
  • Double or triple web with your 90% webs one Dramiel and use keep at range at optimal DPS.
  • Use a mobile depot and start with 3x T2 webs after you finished the Dramiels switch 1x web for a MWD.

Basic Rules and some special ones. I didn’t lose any Frigates to Burner for a long time then it snowballed. Losses right now are 3x Garmur, 3x Daredevil and 1x Wolf. I can’t remember all losses in detail but i know what caused them. Burner are unforgiving one big mistake and you are dead.

So here they are … rules:

  • Do not deal with Burners when you are tired, drunk or stoned you will forget something important like to use your MWD, rep etc.
  • Before you enter the room make sure you have the correct Frigate to deal with the Burner. Double check it every damn time.
  • Do not enter a Team Burner again/alone in a kiting setup after you lost a Frigate. The NPCs will be at ZERO and kill you again.
  • Do not get cocky in any way like “i could let the armor/shield drop a little lower to spare cap booster”, a wrecking shot will hit and kill you.
  • Always and i mean always double check that all mods are activated/deactivated and heated if necessary even if you aren’t tired. In plain english do not burn out your mods.

I lost ships to all 5 rules at least once ignoring them willfully. Especially losing to rule 2 is hilarious when you notice what just happened.

Cap Stable Setups
I was recently made very interested in this topic as my connection has been a bit off lately, and well I’ve found an unexpected benefit, It is very easy to dual box with cap stable setups. Any efficiency loss from using less heat, or dropping a damage mod is easily made up for by running a second account in another burner mission at the same time.

These were mostly started by Zarek Kree in this thread: Cap Stable Burner Fits - Missions & Complexes - EVE Online Forums Also a few fits may have been stolen, or loosely recreated from the old burner thread If anyone wants credit for a fit let me know.

I’ve tested them all with pretty much max skills, not sure how many substitutions can be made for lower skills. I’ve tried to make the setups reasonably cheap. Shop around As I’m writing this an a-type EM hardener is cheaper than any of the available B-types in jita.

Implants
I also use 5% or better implants
slot 6: Warp speed ws-615
slot 7: Ogdin’s Eye Coordination Enhancer (6% tracking implant at 5% prices)
slot 8: Zor’s Custom Navigation Hyper-Link
slot 9: ss-905 5% to all turret damage implant.
slot 10: is actually empty or not applicable in the tests I’ve done, Previously I used large energy turret implant, thought of swapping to a large projectile implant, but I think I’m going to recommend the RL-1005 to speed up garmur and hawk kill times.

The Daredevil used against the Succubus can also be used for the amarr team burner mission, Ram and kill one logi frig, then ram and kill the vengance. For that mission I prefer it to the garmur, for whatever reason the logi seem to be the hardest of all to kill with a garmur, but the daredevil beats them nice and quick. For all other team burners I use the garmur.

  1. Updated succubus vs Angel fit, added a bit more damage lost some tank. Back to older more cap stable safer fit due to burner changes.
  2. Swapped from b-type 50mn mwds to faction, Shadow Serpentis or Fed navy work and are far cheaper.

I usually hit approach and it lets me get okay hits with the gun, matching transversal via manual piloting might be better but hey I’m lazy.

with max skills, 5% rof implant, and a faction BCU you can one clip the DD with heat. Using an agency damage booster also helps, can kill it with 8-9 rockets left.

I haven’t tested this one, I typically find it annoying to run and the payout has dropped over time. The gila is cap stable by default, however it does not have the tank to survive a disconnect. I’ve played with a cap battery ham sacrilege in eft but never got around to testing it.

Bring a 50mn MWD, mobile depot, and MTU, I drop the mobile items at warp in then start killing the drams and launch your drones and put them on the transport. once the drams are down refit the battery for the MWD, scoop the structures + loot, then go finish off and loot the transport.

This will complete the mission but I’m not sure it would survive a disconnect early on in the mission, once one or two of the drams are down it’s safe though. I did a test fit with x-type hardeners and an a-type rep, which seemed DC safe, but that just gets silly expensive. Heating one of the hardeners on the outside seems to be somewhat safe, hopefully gives you enough time to get back in.

this is a less DC survivable version, but very gank focused. Pretty much the original fit only swaps the cap injector for a battery.

Dual boxing with cap stable fits is a good idea. Have you made any timed runs to see what kind of isk efficiency you can achieve? I keep resisting the urge to spin up another omega account but I’m starting to see more and more reasons why it may be worth it. Cloaky scout, cyno alt and now burner buddy.

not yet, only did it for a few hours as proof of concept. Also one character was grinding standings in a non-optimal system, so there is a ton of room for improvement. Going 3-5 jumps for burners really slows things down.

I also tested a smartbomb ship for the angel base. Used a cyclone with a large booster and 7x faction smartbombs. It was great on the tank, however the burner drams can easily lose interest and go after your drones. Also with smartbombs you get a weapons timer so you have to wait 1m to refit after you kill the drams. Not to mention if someone wants to get you concorded they likely will. My character only had the smartbomb skill to 2, so I trained it to 4 and will give it another try next time I get it, Maybe the extra dps means they will stay on me and not go after the drones?

Never did use SBs much but I have been training them recently. What build are you guys using? I’d love to do some comparisons, look at completion times and maybe add the build to my guide as well. Is Faction SBs required? I think the main draw of the current fit is that it’s all T2 modules. Very gank resistant.

anyone know how well RLML, or even hams, apply to the angel burners? looking at cerb/sac fits and with the cerb you can load up on BCUs get nice damage, but few application mods, where the sac loads up the lows with tank but can fill the mids with webs/painters and get better application. gasp even looking at the navy drake, and that is looking good. Similar damage to cerb, a few extra utility slots and big drone bay.

Anyways for smartbomb fits this is what I came up with, tanks in the high 600s vs the angel base damage profile, which is a bit of overkill. The faction smartbombs do a bit more damage, have more range, and use less cap. yea it isn’t super cheap, but costs less than a deadspace vigilant. The t2 vigilant is nice, but it’s going to die every time with a disconnect, also requires a bunch of micro management for heat and cap. I put some shiny on the tank for ages just to make things easier, but no where near the disconnect and live threshold of shiny.

The greatest benefit of the SB Cyclone is that it’s a low SP option for running the Angel Base. And it’s pretty safe as long you keep an eye on D-scan and ensure nobody warps in on you in highsec.

It does require faction SBs though - for cap more than DPS. You need to be able to run the SBs for about 3.5 mins. The fit was originally published by Jackudza in the old burner thread, but I’ve pimped it a bit to be able to shut down my SBs and still tank the Drams if somebody probes me down in the site.

I wait until the Drams have closed on me and the transport is 30km away before launching my drones to go after the transport. The drones fly right through the SBs - they’re not in range of long enough to take more than shield damage.

Thanks, I’ll start playing around with them when I get back home. If the SBs only need ot run for say, 3.5min, What about running a Cap Booster with small cap charges instead of the cap battery for the active tank one? Maybe even dual cap boosters and replace CCC rigs/etc with PG rigs and/or switch out the Cap lows?

I think any number of fits are viable as long as you can tank the damage and keep up your cap long enough to kill the Drams. The biggest problem is that you can’t really trade tank (or cap) for gank like you can with other burner fits, so it’s just a matter of tailoring it to taste. As long as you’re running faction SBs, the only thing that will increase your DPS further is the Energy Pulse Weapons skill.

It’s worth noting that both of these fits are way over-tanked. But there’s no real reason not to over-tank other than saving some isk. These both come in at about 470m isk, but Jackudza’s T2 fit (with the exception of the SBs), clocks in about 360m. But his will die if he gets a DC or doesn’t kill the Drams in a timely manner because he’s running a DPS race.

yep sounds good, and I was planning on throwing the cap stable fits into the google doc, just doing a bit more testing and tweaking, think I’m a bit over tanked for some. and need to get times for the missions.

About dualboxing with capstable fits.
I think some Burner missions could benefit from dualboxing in terms of efficiency and convenience. You spend a lot of time warping to and from Burner missions you can’t improve that via dualboxing, so to get more efficiency we have to look at the completing times and complexity of the missions.

Lets have a look at the ones with longer completing times around 2mins and more:

  • All Team Burner
  • Burner Cruor - Blood Agent
  • Burner Ashimmu - Blood Base
  • Burner Talos - Serpentis Base
  • Burner Escort Dramiel - Angel Base

Team Burner are straight forward and will benefit from 2x Garmurs and it is easy to accomplish. Warp in, set orbit, shot and check your OH in between.

Burner Cruor is painful for a single Wolf. Straight forward use 2x cap stable Wolfs and it is easy to accomplish. Warp in, perma rep, shot, OH guns at a half armor Cruor to avoid burn out mods.

Burner Ashimmu using 2x Gilas should be helpful but no easy task in terms of complexity as you have to check your RLML OH and replace your lost T1 Drones. But because you need around 4 mins in a solo Gila i think it would be worth.

Burner Talos you will need 2x Deimos both pimped to be able to burn straight at the Talos and tank. No idea if you gain time in the end because the main factor in this mission is travel time and not the kill time.

Burner Escort Dramiel 2x Vigilants should do the trick but both have to be the pimped versions because you are to busy to lock, web and kill the Dramiels to check on your rep on both of them at the same time. Warp in, start perma rep, shot.
On the other hand 2x Cyclones with smartbombs are easy to handle. Just orbit one at 500m and boom.

I was more interested in dual boxing and running separate missions, but now I really want to see double cyclones smartbombing one mission. Also in dual boxing one mission you can use way less heat as things die much faster to double ship dps, and I’m assuming most stuff will die before heat becomes an issue. also I’m wondering if aggro will split or all go on one target?

Also it seems prices for cruiser sized mods are going a bit nuts right now, I’m assuming that is mostly because of the t3c rebalance. And also some of it is speculation on complex spawn/drop rates (although that is more on the deadspace hardener side), and armor mods in general as sansha will eventually swap over to shield mods.

doing that the drams lost interest in me and went after my drones. I think I even waited till I had them at half shield and it was 35km away or so. Maybe if I had less tank and “baited” them, no idea if that works with npcs. And maybe smartbomb skill at 5 would help hold aggro, but cba to train it.

Also the serpentis base dual rep deimos is pretty funny, pretty much face tanks the whole mission. Insane kin/therm resists plus rep bonus.

That’s really surprising. As long as I wait until he’s 30km away, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten aggro from the Drams. Maybe a one off? I only have Energy Pulse Weapons at 4.
